PETALING JAYA:

A 63-year-old man was fined RM2,500 by the Parit magistrates’ court today for outraging the modesty of a woman by pinching her cheek at a grocery store in Perak Tengah earlier this month.

Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai handed down the sentence on Samsuri Kamaruddin, who pleaded guilty to committing the offence against the 23-year-old woman on Sept 5 at Simpang Empat in Bota Kanan, Parit.

Before sentencing, she reminded Samsuri that his behaviour was unacceptable, Bernama reported.

“The court wishes to explain that this (touching of the woman) is wrong. It is wrong for you as an adult and a senior citizen. Everyone has acquaintances, but we must maintain boundaries.

“When with anyone who is not our mahram, we should not touch their cheeks, hands or any part of the body. What you did not only outraged the modesty of the victim but also brought shame to your own family,” she was quoted as saying.

Based on the facts of the case, the woman was paying for her items at the counter when Samsuri touched her left cheek twice and then pinched it, even after she had reprimanded him.

The court was told the incident had left her traumatised and reluctant to go to work.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Ameerul Nazhif Wan Zulfikri appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Nurul Syuhada Yusof represented Samsuri.
