PETALING JAYA:

Police have crippled two drug trafficking syndicates in the Klang Valley with the arrest of five local men and the seizure of 164kg of drugs worth RM16.7 million.

police chief Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, aged 18 to 47, were detained in Banting, KLIA Terminal 2 and Kuala Lumpur, reported Bernama

In the first case, two men were arrested in a car in Banting on Tuesday afternoon. A search uncovered 30 packages of ecstasy weighing 61.7kg and three packages of Erimin 5 weighing 9.8kg. The drugs, valued at RM13.6 million, were found in the back seat.

The suspects, aged 47 and 42, had 18 and 22 prior criminal and drug-related convictions respectively. Police also seized a necklace and watch worth RM15,500.

In the second case, an 18-year-old man was arrested at KLIA Terminal 2 while waiting for a flight to Miri on Tuesday morning after police found 4.5kg of methamphetamine in his luggage.

He allegedly made several previous deliveries from Kuala Lumpur to Miri, receiving RM1,000 for each trip.

His arrest led to a follow-up raid on a condominium in Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon, where two men who had allegedly supplied him with the drugs were arrested.

Police seized 86.8kg of methamphetamine in 89 packages and 5.8kg of liquid methamphetamine stored in a drum, worth RM3.7 million. The drugs were believed to be bound for Miri from a neighbouring country.

One suspect had a prior record while the others had none. All three tested negative for drugs.

The five suspects are under a seven-day remand order and are being investigated for drug trafficking.
