KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The 14-year-old teenage boy involved in the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old girl at SMK Bandar Utama 4 is believed to have learning difficulties.

police chief Commissioner Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspect had received rehabilitation counselling focused on improving learning methods, as reported by The Star.

“The suspect had undergone rehabilitation counselling aimed at improving learning methods, not issues related to personality or mental health,” he said.

“Therefore, the allegation that the school failed to take early action regarding the suspect’s mental condition is completely inaccurate,” he told reporters after a walkabout along Jalan Tengku Kelana in Klang.

When asked about the suspect’s current mental state, Shazeli said the matter should be referred to qualified experts.

“I believe it would be unfair for me to comment on his mental condition as the police are not psychiatric specialists,” he said.

“In this situation, we must refer to the appropriate experts. Physically, he appears fine at the moment — that is all I can say,” he added.

In the October 14 incident, the victim died from multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck after being attacked by the suspect in the girls’ toilet.

Yesterday, the suspect was remanded for seven days by the Petaling Jaya Magistrates’ Court to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
