KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor PKR Youth has urged Pas to make a responsible and mature political move by joining the unity government.
Its chief, Muhammad Iman Haziq, said the move offers long-term stability and political momentum that can benefit the people, rather than wasting time on backstabbing.
“This step does not mean Pas wins or loses politically. Rather, it demonstrates that Pas is a magnanimous party, in keeping with its nearly 75 years of maturity.
“It is time for Pas to place the people’s agenda above personal power ambitions,” he said in a statement.
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between Pas and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) following the Perlis crisis and the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman.
Iman added that Bersatu is no stranger to a series of betrayals, with history clearly recording the Sheraton Move, which undermined the mandate of the people.
“I am observing with deep concern the recent developments in the relationship between Pas and Bersatu, which have now spilled into the public sphere, signalling clearly that the nation’s future cannot be left in the hands of a fragile and mutually suspicious coalition.
“We are now seeing a near-repeat episode, what can be described as the ‘Perlis Move’.
“What Bersatu tries to dismiss as a minor setback exposes the narrow-minded politics of the party, which is more tempted by the lure of power than by the spirit of camaraderie.
“At a time when the country needs political stability, I agree with the Selangor Pas Youth’s view calling for a severing of ties with Bersatu.”
