SHAH ALAM: All state government officers, particularly heads of departments involved in flood-related duties, have had their leave frozen until Dec 15 to ensure continuous monitoring of the flood situation in the state.

State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman (Exco) Mohd Najwan Halimi said the decision was also made to ensure smooth coordination of disaster management efforts.

“If there is any emergency, it means they are already here. That is why we are taking these precautionary measures.

“So if no disaster occurs, they may be allowed to take leave later, but for now, we are freezing year-end leave for our officers,” he told reporters after officiating the Entrepreneurs Expo 2025 (SELBIZ 2025) here today.

Najwan said the state government continues to carry out monitoring efforts, with several Exco members visiting temporary evacuation centres (PPS) to check on flood victims.

He said flood victims who have relocated to PPS centres are eligible to receive assistance from both the state government and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

“But the condition is that they must be registered and staying at a PPS. Sometimes victims take shelter at relatives’ or friends’ houses, which makes it difficult for us to track them.

“Those registered at PPS are recorded in our system and are eligible to receive aid from the state and Nadma.”

He added that the state has also activated Team and the Selangor Volunteer Corps (SERVE) for post-flood cleaning operations if required.

He said volunteers are currently focused on cleaning public facilities such as mosques, suraus and community halls.

“As for private homes, we have to consider various factors. Sometimes residents do not feel comfortable with external volunteers entering their homes, so we are focusing volunteer efforts on cleaning public facilities.”

According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal, the number of flood victims in Selangor continues to rise, with 33 PPS centres active as of 12.20pm today.

There are 14 PPS in Kuala Selangor; nine in Sepang; five in Kuala Langat; three in Sabak Bernam; and two in Klang, sheltering 4,416 victims from 1,225 families.
