PETALING JAYA:

menteri besar Amirudin Shari has backed the education ministry’s introduction of a “co-teaching” approach in 2027, which will see two teachers conducting lessons together in one classroom.

He said the state government is optimistic that the approach will help improve the quality of teaching and learning and address challenges faced by schools, but hopes it will first be tested to evaluate its impact, Bernama reported.

“We face various challenges, including infrastructure issues and bullying cases, which require fresh strategies,” he was quoted as saying at the state secretariat building today.

Amirudin, who oversees the state’s education portfolio, said the state government has yet to receive an official update on the initiative.

“I have not been briefed on the details, but I believe the ministry is exploring all possible measures to ensure school-related issues are addressed effectively,” he said.

Previously, education minister Fadhlina Sidek said the co-teaching concept is among several new approaches to be introduced in the 2027 school curriculum, which aims to create a balance between academic performance and character development.

She said it would make teaching and learning sessions more engaging and effective, and ensure that every student receives adequate attention.

Fadhlina said her ministry has already started preparing teachers for the new approach through professional development and training programmes.
