Selangor cries foul over 'VVIP label' by FAM

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of (FAS) is not amused by the FA of Malaysia’s claim that a “VVIP had thrown a bottle” during a FA Cup match against Negri Sembilan at the MBPJ Stadium on Oct 29.

FAS deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said it is not fair of FAM to use the “VVIP” label.

“I spoke to my people, and when they (FAM) said ‘VVIP’, it’s not fair. Because at the top and below are sponsors and invitees, so that’s not fair,” he told Timesport today.

“How do you define VVIP? Straight from the top, nothing, normal invitees or sponsors on the level below, but to say that a VVIP threw a bottle is something I disagree with.”

The FAM Disciplinary Committee yesterday fined FC RM100,000 and ordered their team to play two FA Cup home matches behind closed doors.

FAM found FC guilty of fan violence, VVIP misconduct, vandalism, and organisational negligence. During the match, fans threw firecrackers toward Negri Sembilan supporters.

A plastic drink container, filled with water, was allegedly thrown from the VIP area toward the families of Negri players.

FAM said that Selangor failed to ensure proper stadium security and coordination with local authorities. Viral videos showed smoke from firecrackers, broken seats and fans fighting.

Shahril said FAS will appeal the sanctions. “I think it’s a bit too much, which is why we want to appeal. Because it’s a bit harsh for the team to have to play the FA Cup without fans,” he added.
