A Selangor civil servant has been issued a show-cause letter after a photo of him smoking in an official state government vehicle went viral on social media.
The state secretary’s office said the department head had instructed the officer to provide a written explanation of the incident.
It also said that all civil servants are required to uphold the image of the public service and comply with all regulations, including the code of conduct governing the use of official state government assets.
“Indiscipline not only tarnishes the reputation of the department, but it is also contrary to the values of integrity and public responsibility outlined in the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993,” it said in a statement.
The state secretary reminded all civil servants to maintain proper conduct when using government assets, avoid behaviour that could negatively affect the image of the state government administration, and remain accountable to public perception.
“Any breach of conduct will be dealt with through the existing disciplinary channels,” it said.
