KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — A security guard was sentenced to five years in prison and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here today for unlawful possession of a machete in front of the main entrance of a condominium.
Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid handed down the sentence on Ahmad Jazlan Muhammad Ariff, 32, who pleaded guilty to the charge. He was ordered to serve the prison sentence from the date of arrest, which was yesterday.
Ahmad Jazlan was charged with possessing a machete without a valid permit in front of the main entrance of a condominium at Jalan Tun Sambanthan here at 5.30 am yesterday (Oct 26).
The charge, under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, provides imprisonment for between five and 10 years with whipping, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the police received a report regarding the suspect carrying a machete and, following investigations, found that the man had hidden the machete under a table in front of the entrance of the condominium.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Syafina Mohd Radzuan appeared for the prosecution, while Ahmad Jazlan was unrepresented. — Bernama
