SEBERANG JAYA: The siblings had planned to take their mother on a birthday holiday in a new vehicle on Dec 26, but that will now not happen.
Their 44-year-old mother was found dead in her apartment in Jalan Tuna today, killed by her own husband four days ago.
Her body was found with slash wounds to the neck after the suspect, her 28-year-old unemployed husband, reportedly walked into a nearby police station to confess that he had killed her.
Police later arrested the man to facilitate investigations.
According to the victim’s eldest daughter, the family had planned to take their mother on a holiday on Dec 26 using a new car purchased by her younger sibling.
“We were planning to take mama on a trip for her birthday, but we never imagined she would go in such a tragic way,” she said when met.
She said rushed to the scene after receiving a call from her sibling about the incident.
She added that she last saw her mother two weeks ago when they had a meal and went bowling together.
“She seemed perfectly fine and did not show any signs of trouble, nor did she mention any issues with my stepfather,” she added.
She added that their last conversation through WhatsApp was on Monday when her mother asked for mobile credit.
Normally, her mother would send voice notes. This time, it was a text message.
“At the time, I did not suspect anything… but now I am not sure if that message was sent by mama or my stepfather,” the daughter said.
The victim leaves behind five children.
Two of them, aged 15 and 16, live in Kedah with their father, while the remaining three siblings had lived with their mother until she remarried two years ago.
The eldest daughter said her mother met the suspect while working at a factory, but after their marriage, he prohibited her from working due to jealousy.
“As far as we know, he is not working and becomes easily jealous if mama speaks to anyone.
“That is why he did not allow her to work. But in early November, mama told us she had returned to work at a kiosk in a supermarket and asked us to buy her a mobile phone,” she said.
She also revealed that the suspect’s family had once taken him back to Selangor for treatment as he is believed to have mental health issues.
“Mama was a quiet person and rarely shared her marital problems. She only mentioned arguments with my stepfather, but never said she was physically abused,” she said.
The victim’s body is expected to be brought back to her hometown in Alor Star for burial once the post-mortem examination is completed.
It was reported earlier that police are investigating a murder after a man reportedly turned himself in today, claiming he had killed his wife four days earlier.
State police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed the incident and said investigation was ongoing.
