KUALA TERENGGANU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for another Turkiye national, Eser Demirkol, who went missing after the yacht “Daisy” capsized in the waters off Pulau Yu here, entered its third day on Saturday (Aug 2).
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) Terengganu said in a statement on Saturday that the current search is focused on a sector covering 73.5 square nautical miles.
The statement also noted that Saturday’s operation, which began at 7am, involved both aerial and sea assets belonging to Maritime Malaysia and the Marine Police.
“In addition, Maritime Malaysia divers are expected to carry out dives today,” the statement added.
Earlier, three Turkiye men – yacht captain Ahmet Volkan Ata, 52, Ates Demiroren, 42, and Demirkol, 52-had embarked on a sailing expedition to return to their home country on Monday (July 28).
However, on Tuesday evening (July 29), the yacht was reportedly hit by a storm and capsized in the waters near Pulau Yu.
Demiroren was rescued by local fishermen at noon on Thursday, while Volkan Ata was found safe later that same night by another local fishing boat after having swum for over 40 hours at sea. – Bernama
