SD Property calls for HOC return, SST clarity in 2026 Budget

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd has called for the reintroduction of the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) and greater clarity on the expanded Sales and Services Tax (SST) in 2026 Budget to support both developers and homebuyers.

Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmir Merican said SD Property has submitted proposals to the government.

“We feel the HOC should be revived. It has been more than two years since the last one, and it would help support both homebuyers and the market,” he said during a press conference on the company’s refreshed brand identity here today.

SD Property is also seeking clearer guidelines on SST implementation, saying that timely clarification would help resolve several outstanding issues.

On the broader market outlook, Azmir said SD Property remains cautiously optimistic, balancing growth opportunities with prudence amid external challenges such as rising costs and policy changes.

“This year has been one where we had to respond to many external factors, from Liberation Day effects to the expansion of the SST. These developments impact not only property developers but the wider economy,” he said.

Azmir noted that although demand within the group’s townships remains encouraging, a cautious approach is necessary.

He said striking a balance between property development and recurring income is essential to provide greater resilience during periods of uncertainty.

Meanwhile, SD Property’s new logo comes with a refreshed brand identity, marking an important phase in its transformation from a pure-play property developer into an integrated real estate company.

The new logo retains three key elements synonymous with SD Property which includes its name, shield and heritage red colour, which have carried strong recognition for decades.

However, the refresh introduces a more modern brand presentation that aligns with the group’s future strategy, while maintaining familiarity and customer trust.

The new logo draws inspiration from the values of TEAM and is anchored on four pillars serving as a multiplier of value for people, businesses, economies, and the planet.

This is expressed through shades of red and yellow derived from Sime Darby’s heritage colours.
