KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) — Saudi Arabia is intensifying efforts to attract visitors from key Asian markets, including Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Japan, Singapore and Thailand as part of its strategy to diversify the economy and reinforce its position as a global tourism hub.
In a statement on Friday, the Saudi Tourism Ministry said the initiative was launched at the inaugural TOURISE platform summit, which was held from Nov 11 to 13 in Riyadh.
Saudi Tourism Minister and TOURISE Chairman Ahmed Al Khateeb noted that Saudi Arabia is aligning with the expectations of Asian travellers, focusing on strategic markets such as China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia by engaging travel agents, improving air connectivity, facilitating mobility, and expanding mid-range accommodation options.
He said timing of the summit was ideal to unify the sector and define the future of global tourism.
He highlighted that although the industry has recovered to historic levels of arrivals and investment, it now faces unprecedented challenges and emerging opportunities, including rapid technological shifts and a generational move towards sustainable and experience-driven travel.
Al-Khateeb also emphasised the need to enhance resilience against economic, environmental, and global fragmentation uncertainties.
The summit, which followed the 50th United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly, gathered ministers, business leaders and innovators from across the world to accelerate tourism’s evolution into a more connected, sustainable and technology-driven sector.
Supported by the Saudi Tourism Ministry, TOURISE is set to remain a permanent platform, sustaining year-round cross-sector dialogues and partnerships to transform bold ideas into practical solutions for the global tourism industry.
