PETALING JAYA:

The Sarawak government will spend almost RM600 million to provide free tertiary education for Sarawak students who intend to further their studies from next year.

State deputy education, innovation and talent development minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said the initiative will only be applicable to students who further their studies at four state government-owned universities, Bernama reported.

This will involve 64 courses at these universities, he added.

The four universities are Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, Curtin Universiti Malaysia, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak and I-Cats University College.

Annuar said Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg had never promised free tertiary education in any previous election.

“However, it will still be done out of care and in the educational interests of Sarawak youths,” he said during an outreach programme he attended in Sibu today.
