Sarawak premier soon to move into 'White House'

KUCHING: Sarawak will soon unveil its very own ‘White House’, with a soft launch set for this Monday (Aug 4), coinciding with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s 75th birthday.

The new administrative complex, located in Petra Jaya, will house the premier’s office, Dayak Daily reported.

Its white façade and architecture, reminiscent of the executive mansion in Washington DC, have led locals to dub it Sarawak’s White House.

The three-storey building, adjoined by two double-storey blocks, is still undergoing final works but will function solely as an administrative facility, not as the premier’s residence.

An official name has yet to be announced.

Abang Johari said the design reflects Sarawak’s aspirations for sound governance, strong institutions and a global outlook.
