KUCHING, Sept 19 — The Magistrates’ Court here today fined an unemployed man RM1,000 in default 10 days’ imprisonment for cutting his brother-in-law’s newly-repaired water supply pipe.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali convicted Nazri Alli, 52, on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief with intent to cause wrongful loss.
The Section provides for imprisonment of between one and five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The offence was committed at a house in Petra Jaya here at 10.08am on September 16 and caused a loss of RM330.
Based on the facts of the case, the complainant realised that his household water supply had been cut.
Reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, he discovered that Nazri was responsible.
The complainant then hired a repairman to reinstall the main supply line pipe, incurring a cost of RM330, which was supported by a receipt of payment.
However, later that evening, Nazri cut the newly-repaired pipe again.
This prompted the brother-in-law to lodge a police report, which led to Nazri’s arrest the following day.
It is understood that Nazri had acted out of dissatisfaction with the complainant’s wife, who is his younger sister, believing she had kept his diploma, which he claimed made it difficult for him to find employment.
Nazri had worked at a tile factory for four years before losing his job two weeks ago.
He was unrepresented by legal counsel. — The Borneo Post
