KOTA SAMARAHAN, Sept 22 — Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen has been discharged from the Sarawak Heart Centre here after undergoing an angiogram to clear a blocked artery.
When contacted following a Facebook post showing him in a hospital gown and smiling, Chong told The Borneo Post that he was “fine” and expressed his thanks to the medical team that treated him.
The Stampin MP and Padungan state assemblyman also said he has been advised by the centre not to work too hard for at least two weeks.
I am discharged already. Grateful to the Cardiologist, Dr Ong, and the team of nurses and medical officers for their assistance,” he said.
The 54-year-old Stampin MP and Padungan assemblyman assured supporters that he will be “back in action in no time.”
Chong, a Kuching native, is also a lawyer and chairman of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
He previously served as deputy minister of domestic trade and consumer affairs under the Pakatan Harapan government from 2018 to 2020.
He has been leader of the Sarawak Opposition from 2013 to 2020, and again since March 2024, as well as Stampin MP since May 2018 and Padungan assemblyman since December 2021.
Chong was also former Bandar Kuching MP from March 2004 to May 2018 and former Kota Sentosa assemblyman from May 2006 to December 2021. — The Borneo Post
