Sapura Holdings Sdn Bhd group CEO Shahril Shamsuddin is set to contest his father Shamsuddin Abdul Kadir’s application in the shariah high court to revoke a hibah or gift of 14.85 million shares given to him in 1997.

During case management, counsel Rafie Shafie, representing Shahril, informed the court that his client’s instructions were to challenge the application.

Rafie also said Shamsuddin’s writ of summons and statement of claim were only served on his client on Oct 13.

Registrar Niana Nazahar fixed Nov 18 for further case management.

Shahril, 64, was not present in court this morning.

Shamsuddin’s counsel, Suhaimi Saad, said the 94-year-old Sapura founder filed two applications in court: one to confirm the hibah granted to his two sons Shahril and Shahriman, and another to revoke the hibah made to Shahril.

Suhaimi said Shamsuddin had given each of his sons 14,850,000 shares in Sapura Holdings on Nov 7, 1997, as part of the hibah.

No reason was given as to why the revocation was directed only at Shahril.

Shahriman, 56, who was present in court, was named as the second defendant solely to confirm the grant of the hibah.

Lawyer Fakhrul Azman Abu Hassan, representing Shahriman, said his client had no objection to the patriarch’s application to confirm the hibah gifted to his client.
