Perikatan Nasional election director Sanusi Nor has called on voters in Ayer Kuning to put an end to DAP’s legacy on Saturday, even though the Pakatan Harapan component is not contesting for the state seat.
Sanusi claimed that defeating Barisan Nasional in the by-election would thwart DAP’s progress.
BN and PH, of which DAP is a partner, are allies in the unity government.
Sanusi also denied claims that his party PAS and Bersatu were fanning racial sentiments, and accused DAP of doing so instead.
“DAP is a dangerous party. It is chauvinistic and racist. Despite the image they try to portray, history has shown that since DAP was established, temperatures have risen,” he said at a ceramah in Bidor here last night.
“By rejecting BN in Ayer Kuning, we can end DAP’s political legacy and foster greater unity among the different races in the country.”
Tomorrow’s by-election will see a three-cornered fight among PAS‘s Abdul Muhaimin Malek, representing PN, Yusri Bakir of Umno, representing BN, and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
During the ceramah, Sanusi hit out at “a party”, which he did not name, linking it to the May 13, 1969 incident.
“Now, this party has 40 parliamentary seats, which has reignited tension among the races. And this has emboldened certain quarters to remove the crescent – the symbol for Islam – from the Jalur Gemilang,” he said, referring to the controversy over the recent flag design blunders.
While he did not name anyone in particular, there has been a string of gaffes involving the design of the national flag.
Yesterday, the education ministry apologised for an “unacceptable” mistake in the design of the Jalur Gemilang printed in its Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia results analysis report.
The report contained an image of students in a classroom, with a Jalur Gemilang with two stars instead of one hanging on the wall. The flag had eight alternating red and white stripes instead of 14.
On Saturday, a Singapore-based baby food vendor apologised after putting up a video showing the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon.
Last week, a Chinese language daily stirred controversy following an illustration on its front page, where it wrongly depicted the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon.
Sin Chew Daily has since apologised over the gaffe and suspended its chief editor and deputy chief sub-editor pending the outcome of investigations. Police are also investigating the incident.
Kwong Wah Yit Poh is also being investigated over a Facebook post purportedly showing the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon.
