ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today won his defamation suit against Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail over remarks concerning the alleged theft of rare earth elements (REE).
High Court Judge Dr John Lee Kien How @ Mohamad Johan Lee ordered Saifuddin to pay RM600,000 in damages and RM70,000 in legal costs, ruling that he had defamed Sanusi by alleging the misuse of funds under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris).
The defamatory remarks were made during Saifuddin’s speech at the Unity Tour Programme and the launch of the Kedah Unity Machinery in Guar Chempedak, Yan, on July 15, 2023. The event, held at 8.30pm, formed part of a joint Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional campaign in the run-up to the state election in August.
