Samsuri to defend VP post in Pas polls

KUALA LUMPUR: vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said he will defend his post at the upcoming party elections.

“Yes, as the incumbent, God willing, I will defend this post. I am grateful for the nominations from the divisions,” the Terengganu menteri besar said in a video on his social media page.

The 71st Muktamar will be held in Kota Sarang Semut from Sept 11 to 16.

Previously, Samsuri stepped down as Marang division chairman. He said he wanted to allow new leadership to continue the party’s struggles.

Marang Pas division deputy chairman Datuk Mohd Nor Hamzah was named the new chairman after winning the post uncontested.

Subsequently, Samsuri denied that his resignation as the Marang pas chief was not linked to the party presidency.

He also dismissed suggestions that Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang was stepping down.
