KOTA KINABALU, Sept 25 — Parti Warisan announced yesterday Kota Kinabalu Native Court District Chief Edna Jessica Majimbun, 47, as its newest member, in what party leaders described as a boost for youth and women’s participation in politics.

Edna made history in 2020 as the first woman appointed as a District Chief in the Sabah Native Court system.

She is also the daughter of former Sepanggar MP Datuk Eric Majimbun, although she said she had no affiliation with any political party before this.

Explaining her decision, Edna said she believed Sabahans needed to rally under one platform.

“This is the time now for all Sabahans to be united. That’s the reason why I joined this party. I believe this is the only party that can truly bring everyone together,” she said at the Warisan headquarters in Kolombong.

Her membership was officially received by Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, accompanied by deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking, secretary-general Datuk Loretto Padua Jr, information chief Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman and other party leaders.

When asked if Edna could be fielded as a candidate in Inanam, where she is from, Shafie said it was too early to make such announcements.

“The time will come… not to announce now,” he said, adding that early disclosures could lead to sabotage or attempts by rival parties to lure potential candidates.

Shafie said Edna’s entry into Warisan was significant, noting her role as a trailblazer in the Native Court and her potential to strengthen the party’s inclusivity.

“This is an important step for us, especially in promoting young leadership and gender inclusivity,” he said.
