KOTA KINABALU: Power outages in parts of Sabah are expected to be restored within two days, the Chief Minister was told.

Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said Sabah Electricity Chief Operating Officer Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof had briefed him about the ground situation following a major power outage affecting Sabah’s east coast on Saturday (Sept 13).

He said that the Sabah Electricity crisis team was in place and on the ground to implement the reconnection of the Kolopis – Segaliud power line.

He was informed that the power connection works could be completed within two days, depending on weather conditions.

“I understand the precarious nature of the restoration works, and while we hoped it could be completed quickly, at the same time, I want them to exercise caution too,” Hajiji said.

This comes after he called for an emergency meeting with Sabah Electricity, State Secretary cum State Disaster Management Committee Director Datuk Seri Safar Untong and Sabah National Security Council (MKN) Director Datuk Yahya Sulaiman.

Yusmanizan, the crisis commander overseeing the power restoration works, briefed the team on the ongoing major power outage issues and updates on restoration works.

He told them that the power outage was due to a collapsed Kolopis – Segaliud 275kV tower swept by a landslide in Kampung Sarapung, Penampang.

Sabah Electricity said that over 230,000 users were affected by this outage.
