KOTA KINABALU: PKR‘s Sindumin candidate Datuk Yamani Hafez is honoured to be named one of the 10 contenders to run in the coming Sabah election.
He attributed his candidacy to the Sindumin PKR Youth division chief and their supporters.
“This shows farsightedness, a vision of building a better Sindumin. Without the support of the youth division chief, I don’t think I would be a candidate,” he said after he was named on Sunday (Nov 9).
Yamani said this would be a heavy responsibility moving forward but is confident that they can win the election if they all worked together as one, while dismissing that he is a surprise candidate for PKR.
He also took the advice of Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take care of the divisions and the supporters from the ground.
“These divisions were the ones who have been working hard for 20 over years, and that is why we must place importance on them first,” he said.
Asked who he thinks his strongest contender was, Yamani said he is not sure who the other candidates were as yet.
“It could be anyone, I think everybody can have a chance,” he added.
Meanwhile, two Gagasan Rakyat leaders Datuk George Hiew and Datuk Jamawi Jaafar are leaving the party to contest under Pakatan Harapan.
Hiew and Jamawi confirmed that they informed Gagasan Rakyat president that they will be contesting as PKR candidates under the Pakatan ticket.
Hiew, who is defending his Karamunting seat, said that he has tendered his resignation to the party and officially joined PKR on Sunday.
Jamawi, who will stand in Melalap, also said that the decision was done through discussions.
He said that the move was to strengthen the coalitions.
