KOTA KINABALU: All party leaders and members of Sabah STAR are standing behind its president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who has decided that the party will contest the state elections under its own banner.
Sabah STAR information chief Anuar Ghani said Kitingan’s decision to lead the party into the polls solo was made after assessing the current political situation.
“He (Kitingan) had previously said that Sabah STAR will move solo if GRS decided to continue with its pact with Pakatan Harapan and those in the same team with Barisan Nasional or Umno,” he said.
At first, Sabah STAR suggested for Sabah Pakatan to only defend seven seats under the GRS logo but the GRS supreme council meeting had apparently offered between 21 and 23 seats, he said.
“We have stressed many times that if GRS wants to go solo, we will stand with them but they still opted to work with Pakatan and Barisan.
“We will not support this move because it is against the majority of the people’s voices,” Anuar said.
He reiterated that Sabah STAR’s decision to go solo was based on Sabahans’ aspirations.
Anuar said that Sabah STAR’s struggle is to ensure that the state would be fully managed by local parties for its pride, justice, independence and future of the sovereign Sabah.
“We are confident that this decision is the best for the rakyat, in line with our fight for justice for Sabah and making sure that the Sabah for Sabahan slogan is achieved,” he said.
