Sabah PKR confirms Silam candidate's withdrawal


KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today confirmed that its candidate for Silam has withdrawn from contesting in the Sabah General Election.

Its chief, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, said Abdul Halim Sidek Gulam Hassan’s decision to pull out was a personal one, made without any external pressure.

He added that the spirit of solidarity and political cooperation had always been ‘s priority in ensuring political stability in Sabah.

“Although he is not contesting, Halim has expressed his commitment to continue serving the people of Silam and Lahad Datu in whatever capacity he is able to.

“Sabah appreciates his unwavering dedication to the people and to Sabah,” Mustapha said in a statement.

He also called on PKR and Pakatan Harapan (PH) election machinery and supporters in Silam to remain calm and stay focused throughout the polls.

Recently, Halim had reportedly announced his decision to pull out from the Sabah election.

He said the decision was made following detailed discussions with the PH top leadership.
