Sabah election: Anwar to announce PKR candidates next week

SANDAKAN: The list of candidates for the 17th Sabah state election is expected to be announced on Nov 9 or 10, said Sabah Leadership Council chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

He said the official announcement would be made by president Datuk Seri Ibrahim in Kota Kinabalu.

“Discussions on seats with Barisan Nasional have been finalised, while with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), only one seat remains unresolved, but I believe it will be settled soon,” he told reporters after the Sabah PKR Leadership Council’s Sabah People’s Hope Tour event here tonight.

On the Sandakan parliamentary constituency, Mustapha said Sabah PKR would contest two state assembly seats — Gum Gum and Karamunting.

“One candidate will represent the Bumiputera Muslim community, and the other will represent the Tionghua community.

“Today, we are on a tour to explain the initiatives implemented by the Madani government for Sabah.

“Sometimes we are misled by prejudices, and through this tour, we represent the Madani government, the party, and Pakatan Harapan, to provide information to the grassroots on the government’s contributions,” he said.

The Election Commission has set Nov 29 as polling day for the 17th Sabah state election, with nomination day on Nov 15 and early voting on Nov 25.
