KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP is calling for the special technical committee on Malaysia Agreement 1963 to be immediately mandated to review the 40% state revenue entitlement process within the 90 days in line with the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling.

Sabah DAP vice chairman Datuk Chan Foong Hin said that he had proposed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim for the technical committee under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council to carry out the review.

He said both the federal and Sabah governments, through the council, were currently formulating a new mechanism to determine the future calculation of the special grant – consistent with the principles and spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“I personally expressed to the Prime Minister that now is the time for both federal and state governments to work in unity and good faith to ensure that Sabah’s constitutional rights under MA63 are upheld through genuine dialogue, mutual trust and transparent implementation,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 23).

He also said it was timely for the Finance Ministry to disclose the actual amount of federal revenue collected from Sabah, to promote transparency and prevent any misunderstanding or misrepresentation by other parties.

Chan said that the Prime Minister, in his ministerial briefing, affirmed that the federal government would respect the legal process and will carefully study the written judgment of the Kota Kinabalu High Court.

“I take note of the federal government’s continued commitment to resolving all outstanding MA63 matters, enhancing the Special Grant rate for Sabah, and increasing annual operational and development allocations to uplift the well-being and prosperity of the people of Sabah,” he said.
