Sabah announces RM1,000 compassionate aid for evacuated families

KOTA KINABALU: Compassionate aid ranging from RM1,000 to RM10,000 will be provided to disaster victims in Sabah to help ease their burden, the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) announced today.

In a statement, the committee said RM1,000 in cash aid would be given to the head of each family currently housed at temporary relief centres.

Additionally, a death benefit of RM10,000 will be provided to the next of kin of victims who lost their lives in the disaster.

“This aid is given to Malaysian citizens registered with the Social Welfare Department. The government will also provide food baskets to all those affected by this disaster,” the statement said here today.

JPBN Sabah also informed that the state government had obtained cooperation from the federal government through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to channel financial assistance, additional Bailey Bridges and other aid to ensure the disaster could be managed and addressed properly.

The committee added that local authorities and related agencies were actively carrying out monitoring, aid distribution and logistics coordination to ensure the safety and welfare of all victims.

“All rescue and response agencies under the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee are working at full capacity to deal with the natural disaster currently affecting the state,” it said.
