Russia attacks Ukraine's Sumy region, killing one, injuring nine

KYIV: Russia launched renewed overnight drone attacks on Ukraine’s border region of Sumy, killing one person and injuring nine others, Sumy Governor Oleh Hryhorov said Monday on Telegram, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

In the provincial capital of Sumy, an apartment building and dozens of detached houses were damaged. Civilian infrastructure was also hit.

In the Konotop district, the public prosecutor’s office has opened investigations into war crimes after a 37-year-old driver was killed in a drone strike and two elderly passengers sustained severe injuries.

According to Ukrainian air defence, Russia deployed 104 Iranian-designed Shahed combat drones overnight, 76 of which were intercepted.

The Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine has now lasted three and a half years. Russia continues to target the hinterland of its neighbour, killing civilians and destroying infrastructure. — BERNAMA
