KUALA LUMPUR: Robust governance and strong accountability are essential to addressing long-standing issues such as financial leakages, mismanagement, and corruption, says Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the values of good governance and accountability must be promoted at all levels, especially among internal auditors, and that such values should not be seen as a burden.

“We have seen in the past, notable prominent audits or companies, rating agencies under scrutiny because of a lack of integrity.

“As we have experienced, many of the financial scandals in the past, including the infamous 1MDB, could not have happened without the complicity of auditors and international financial institutions.

“We must take this as a challenge and save our society and nation from these transgressions,” he said in his keynote address at the Asian Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (Aciia) conference 2025 here on Tuesday (Sept 9).
