KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — A car salesman has been remanded for four days for allegedly hiring two men to fake a robbery involving more than RM60,000 of his own money in Jalan Kampung Gajah, Butterworth, last Wednesday.

The two men, a lorry driver and a security guard, were also remanded for the same period to assist police investigations.

Magistrate Aini Adilah Muhammad Faizal issued the order at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrates’ Court today.

According to Malaysia Gazette, the trio, all in police custody, arrived at the court compound at about 9.35am under police escort.

Police said the 42-year-old salesman, who initially claimed he had been robbed by two men on a motorcycle, later emerged as the key suspect.

Investigators arrested the two alleged accomplices in Sungai Petani, Kedah, yesterday, uncovering what they believe was a staged heist.

The men, aged 33 and 38, admitted to taking part in the plan but claimed they have not received the promised RM3,000 payment.

Police also said the salesman confessed to spending his customer’s money for personal use.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
