ISKANDAR PUTERI: The RM3.65 million signage replacement and upgrading works at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) here were completed 76 days ahead of schedule, boosting border operations and traffic efficiency at the Malaysia–Singapore gateway.
The project involved the installation of new static and electronic signboards, including a variable message system (VMS), throughout the complex’s inbound and outbound areas.
State Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Fazli Salleh said the upgraded signage system will enhance communication and traffic management at one of the country’s busiest land entry points.
“The new VMS units play a crucial role in delivering real-time operational information such as lane closures, diversions, and special instructions for specific vehicles.
“This will ensure smoother traffic flow and prevent confusion among users,” he said.
Originally scheduled for completion in December, the project was delivered on Sept 22.
It included gantry structure installation, static signboards, road line marking, and electrical component upgrades.
At KSAB, four inbound and four outbound counters benefited from the new signage, while at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) checkpoint, seven outbound counters were upgraded.
Fazli said the project not only modernises border facilities but also supports seamless cross-border mobility between Malaysia and Singapore.
