PETALING JAYA:

The government spent a total of RM10.92 million to hold Madani Aidlfitri open houses in seven states this year, said deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof.

In a written parliamentary reply, Fadillah said this meant that spent an average of RM1.56 million on every open house held in the seven states.

He added that the government spent RM10.05 million last year to hold Hari Raya open houses in seven states, an average of RM1.43 million on each event.

He said this was more cost-effective than the RM11 million the previous administration spent on one Aidilfitri open house in in 2022.

“The government only started holding the Aidilfitri open houses in several locations across the country in 2023.

“In comparison, the Aidilfitri open house held in 2022 was limited to Malaysians in the Klang Valley and involved a higher cost of RM11 million.”

He also said the government did not use funds from the private sector or government-linked firms to organise these events, adding that the costs were fully borne by Putrajaya as part of its “social investment” to strengthen ties with the rakyat.

“These events aren’t merely festive celebrations but are important platforms to foster national unity, harmony and encourage interactions among our multiethnic society.”
