Retired lecturer injured after crashing into a herd of cows in Kemaman

CHUKAI: A retired lecturer was injured when the car she was driving crashed into a herd of cows at Kilometre 301.5 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), near the Kijal toll plaza exit early this morning.

Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli said the 4.45am incident left Khlipah Ibrahim, 65, with injuries to her right hand.

Her husband, Ahmad Aziz, 67, who is also a retired lecturer, did not suffer any injuries.

“Checks showed the couple was travelling from their home in Dungun to Kuantan, Pahang at the time of the incident. Initial investigations revealed that the crash occurred as the Honda Accord driven by Khlipah was in the right lane of the expressway.

“The vehicle is believed to have gone out of control when a herd of cows suddenly crossed the road from the left to the right side,” he said when contacted today.

Mohd Razi said the car could not avoid the animals due to the short distance, resulting in it hitting between five and seven cows.

The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.

He also advised motorists to stay alert when driving along the stretch as cattle are known to roam the area.
