SEGAMAT: Despite being classified as a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5, residents around Segamat still felt the tremor at 7.56pm earlier.
It was understood that the tremor was felt in several areas, including Astakajaya, Bukit Lintang, Gelang Cincin, Gemereh, Taman Yayasan, Paya Pulai and Kampung Tengah.
Resident Wahab Ismail, 56, said he felt the tremor for only a few seconds while resting at home.
“Many friends were asking in our WhatsApp group about the tremor. I was sitting on a chair when it suddenly shook, but it did not last long,” he said.
Another resident, Masrina Ismail, 34, said the tremor was also felt in her neighbourhood in Kampung Tengah.
“This is the third tremor we have felt since last Sunday’s incident. However, we need to stay alert for any possibility,” she said.
Last Sunday, a minor earthquake measuring 4.1 magnitude was detected at 6.13am in Segamat, with an aftershock of magnitude 2.8 later recorded in Yong Peng, about 28km northwest of Kluang.
Based on recorded data, the tremor occurred in a district located about 180km from the state capital and was also felt in many parts of Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and southern Pahang.
Earlier, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the fourth earthquake, recorded at 7.56pm, occurred about 13km north of Segamat at a depth of 10km.
