PETALING JAYA:

Rela has warned the public against harassing its personnel after a video of an altercation at the Johor Bahru Sentral bus terminal on Nov 4 went viral on social media.

The video showed a member of the public raising his voice in anger at a Rela member.

According to Rela, the man was upset after being asked to follow a set walkway when heading to the bus waiting area.

Rela said its personnel were on duty to help maintain order and ensure the safety of passengers at the terminal.

In a statement, the department said Rela members were recognised as public officers carrying out official duties.

It added that those who threaten or verbally abuse its personnel, or obstruct them from carrying out their duties, could be investigated under the law.

“We appreciate the professionalism and patience of the Rela member involved in trying to handle the tense situation without resorting to provocation,” the department said.
