KUALA LUMPUR: The People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) has acknowledged an incident involving one of its personnel at the Johor Baru Sentral Bus Terminal, which went viral on social media on Tuesday (Nov 4).
In a statement on Thursday (Nov 6), Rela said the incident occurred while the officer was assisting with crowd management and ensuring public safety at the terminal, located within Bangunan Sultan Iskandar.
“The Rela member was rudely confronted by a member of the public who became dissatisfied after being reminded to follow the designated route when accessing the bus services,” the department said.
Rela said it views the incident seriously and reminded the public that its personnel are authorised officers performing official duties under the department’s mandate.
“Any act of obstruction, threat or verbal abuse towards Rela personnel while they are on duty may be investigated under existing laws,” it said.
The department also commended the officer’s professionalism and composure in handling the tense situation calmly and without provocation.
“To strengthen public confidence and service quality, Rela will continue to provide its members with regular training and guidance,” it added.
