IPOH: Amanah remains committed to rejecting identity politics that discriminate against others based on differences in religion, race, or ethnicity, says Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

The Amanah vice president stressed the importance of steering clear of narrow politics, warning that such approaches are a “poison” that threatens national unity.

“Identity politics, exploited for power, will only destroy the unity of the people,” he said in his speech at the party’s Perak-level convention here on Sunday (Sept 7).

“Perak must never return to such divisive politics, and neither can Malaysia.

“We will only progress if we remain united, value diversity, and turn our differences into strength.”

Among those present was Perak Amanah chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi.

Dzulkefly, who is also the Health Minister, said the close cooperation seen in the Perak administration, led by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, proves that the unity government can function effectively.

“(From Amanah), one state executive councillor and several special officers, including Asmuni in the Manjoi constituency, as well as several others in Titi Serong, Kamunting and Pasir Panjang, reflect this strong partnership,” he added.

Commenting on the upcoming Sabah state election, Dzulkefly said seat negotiations with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) are progressing smoothly.

“We hope that some seats will be allocated to Amanah so that we can secure our first representation in Sabah in the coming election,” he added.
