KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor and Terengganu advanced to the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals after delivering emphatic second-leg performances on Friday night to complete convincing aggregate wins.
At the MBPJ Stadium, Selangor recorded a 3-0 victory over Kelantan The Real Warriors (KTRW) to progress 5-1 on aggregate, having taken a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Kota Baru.
Chrigor Moraes gave the Red Giants an early lift with the opening goal in the 19th minute, before Faisal Halim struck in stoppage time at the end of the first half to place Selangor firmly in control.
KTRW’s task became even more difficult despite Selangor being reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute when defender Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar was sent off.
However, the visitors failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage, and Moraes put the tie beyond doubt five minutes later by scoring his second of the night in the 66th minute.
In Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu were in devastating form as they overwhelmed UM-Damansara United (UMD) 5-0 at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, completing a 7-0 aggregate triumph following their 2-0 first-leg win.
Engku Nur Shakir Engku Yacob set the tone with two quick goals in the 33rd and 37th minutes, before Brazilian forward Raianderson Morais, better known as Careca, added a third just before halftime (45+2). Engku Shakir completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute to further underline Terengganu’s dominance, with Careca scoring again late in the 88th minute to round off a comprehensive victory.
