ISKANDAR PUTERI, Sept 11 — The Johor state government has set aside RM5.6 million for all 56 state constituencies to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the allocation is intended to assist flood victims during the Northeast Monsoon later this year.

“The allocation is distributed through the Johor state legislative assembly’s management and the Northeast Monsoon Assistance initiative.

“Each of the 56 state constituencies will receive RM100,000 for disaster preparation and early relief, thus ensuring that the people in their respective areas receive appropriate protection,” he said at the Johor state legislative assembly at Kota Iskandar here today.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the Machap assemblyman, said the initiative forms part of the state government’s effort to prioritise the well-being of the people, especially when facing natural disasters.

The northeast monsoon typically occurs from November to March, bringing heavy, persistent rainfall to the East Coast of peninsular Malaysia, west Sarawak, and east Sabah.

These downpours often cause flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and near rivers.
