SHAH ALAM: Two food premises in Bukit Sentosa, Hulu Selangor, have been ordered to close for 14 days after inspectors discovered rodent and cockroach infestations in their food preparation areas.
The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council said the closures followed inspections by officers from the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp).
“Inspections revealed several critical non-compliances, including operating without a licence, presence of rat droppings and cockroaches, and food handlers who had not received anti-typhoid injections or attended food handling courses,” the council said in a statement today.
Other violations included refrigerators without proper temperature control, unhygienic cooking equipment and toilets, slippery kitchen floors with stagnant water, poorly maintained grease traps causing waste to flow into public drains, and practices posing a risk of cross-contamination.
As a result, the council issued 19 compounds under the Food Establishments By-Laws 2007 and the Food Handlers By-Laws 2007.
During the same operation, the council also emphasised the ban on polystyrene food containers, in line with Selangor state government policy.
“We remain committed to continuous and consistent enforcement of the polystyrene ban due to its impact on public health and the environment, while ensuring operators comply with existing regulations,” it said.
Offences involving the use of polystyrene containers were also compounded as an educational measure to prevent repeat violations.
The two premises will only be allowed to resume operations after thorough cleaning and passing a follow-up inspection.
“These enforcement actions are taken to protect consumers’ health, strengthen compliance with by-laws, and ensure the food business environment in Hulu Selangor remains safe, clean, and orderly,” it added.
