KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, arrived at the grounds of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery at about 8.52am today to begin the ceremonial royal procession marking his wedding, a 1.2-kilometre journey towards Istana Alam Shah.
Dressed smartly in a white baju Melayu, His Highness was set to proceed by Rolls-Royce to the Royal Mosque within the grounds of Istana Alam Shah in Klang, for the private wedding ceremony with his bride, Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz, at 10am, Berita Harian reported today.
Palace attendants were seen preparing ceremonial items including royal parasols, decorative palm blossoms, spears and wedding trays, accompanied by the traditional kompang ensemble of the Selangor royal household.
Earlier, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, passed by the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery at 8.17am.
Security observations showed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) were on duty to ensure safety and traffic control, assisted by enforcement officers from the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and other agencies.
Media personnel had gathered at the grounds of the Royal Gallery as early as 6am, followed by members of the public from across Selangor’s nine districts who began arriving from 7am.
Along Jalan Istana leading to Istana Alam Shah, people lined both sides of the road, many dressed in national attire or batik, each waving a Selangor flag to greet the Raja Muda during the procession.
On September 22, Sultan Sharafuddin announced the marriage of Tengku Amir Shah. The Sultan’s private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, later confirmed that the royal wedding would take place at the Royal Mosque within Istana Alam Shah in Klang.
He added that the royal wedding reception and banquet in honour of the marriage of the Raja Muda of Selangor will be held at the Balairung Seri and Royal Banquet Hall of Istana Alam Shah on October 22.
