KUANTAN: The Kuantan traffic police Facebook page recently sparked attention with a sarcastic post comparing anxious parents waiting for their children outside the police headquarters to those awaiting Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results.
The humour stemmed from the post’s witty tone, following the arrest of a group of youths allegedly committing traffic offences during a two-day operation codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ here.
During the operation, many parents and other family members waited as their children were forced to push their vehicles to the police station compound. They could only observe from outside the fence until the documentation process was completed.
“Is this something to be proud of? Does the feeling of excitement resemble that of waiting for the recent SPM results?” read the post.
The post poked fun at the offenders, including a couple detained for performing a wheelie in the pouring rain. The caption humorously noted their willingness to get drenched for the sake of their daring stunt.
It also made light of a motorcyclist and his pillion passenger, both aged 17, saying they were fortunate not to fall off a bridge into the river while attempting the wheelie.
Kuantan police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, said the operation, led by Inspector Mohammad Kamaruddin Jubin, took place between Pantai Sepat and Jalan Sekilau from 5pm yesterday to 1.30am today.
The police issued 212 summonses, while the Road Transport Department (RTD) fined 265 motorcyclists.
“Two teenagers, one of whom is scheduled to sit for his SPM this year, were detained for reckless and dangerous riding. Their motorcycles were among the 38 bikes seized during the operation. Police inspected 190 cars and motorcycles, issuing summonses for various offences such as driving without a valid licence, expired road tax, faulty brakes, incorrect registration plate numbers, and modified exhaust pipes,” he said in a statement today.
Wan Mohd Zahari added that the operation involved officers from the district Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division’s Highway Patrol Unit, the Pahang police contingent headquarters, Police Volunteer Reserve members, and RTD officers.
Meanwhile, netizens praised the creativity of the Facebook page administrator.
Some expressed that the post’s humour was deeply hurtful, while others encouraged the police to make more sardonic posts targeting the mat rempit groups.
