LANGKAWI: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast morning rain throughout the three days of the 18th Asean Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (AMME-18), which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday (Sept 2).
Thunderstorms are expected to hit the island on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, while fair weather is forecast for the final day on Thursday, it said.
Meanwhile, the evenings of the first and second days are expected to be cloudy but fair at night.
The AMME-18, scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday at the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC), will be convened alongside the 20th Meeting of the Asean Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (AATHP) Conference of Parties (COP) and related meetings.
The event will gather Asean environment ministers and senior officials to discuss regional cooperation on sustainability and inclusive environmental management.
According to a statement issued by the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES), the anticipated outcomes include four main deliverables, namely a Joint Asean Statement for the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP30), progress on the establishment of the Asean Centre for Climate Change (ACCC) and the adoption of the Asean Climate Change Strategic Action Plan (ACCSAP). – Bernama
