Economy minister Rafizi Ramli showed up on the second day of the 46th Asean Summit and related summits today, despite speculation over his future in the Cabinet following his defeat in the race for the PKR deputy presidency last Friday.
Rafizi turned up at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) early this morning to attend the 16th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit, which kicked off at 8am.
He joined Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and foreign minister Mohamad Hasan at the high-level meeting, which also saw the attendance of regional leaders including Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto.
Rafizi was seen shaking hands with Anwar and other Asean delegates upon his arrival.
Rafizi, the Pandan MP, previously said he would resign as economy minister if he lost the battle for the PKR deputy presidency.
He failed to defend his post in a straight fight with Nurul Izzah Anwar last Friday.
Nurul Izzah, the daughter of party president Anwar, won the post after securing 9,803 votes against Rafizi’s 3,866.
