Radzi Jidin tipped as next opposition leader, sparking speculation in Dewan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: Talk of Bersatu vice-president Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin stepping in as the next opposition leader, replacing Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, unexpectedly surfaced in the Dewan Rakyat today.

The matter was raised by Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan, who jokingly offered his congratulations to the MP during the sitting.

“I would like to congratulate the MP, who is reportedly to be appointed as the opposition leader in parliament.

“Takziah (condolences) to the Larut MP (Hamzah), who is said to be removed from the post.

“All the best to the MP,” he said in jest during the committee-stage debate on the 2026 Supply Bill for the Health Ministry.

The remarks come amid speculation of internal friction within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), triggered by claims that Radzi is being lined up for the post.

However, no official statement has been issued by the party regarding the alleged appointment.

Yesterday, a news portal reported a leaked internal draft document dated Nov 10, purportedly a confidential letter from Bersatu’s leadership, calling for immediate action against certain individuals to restore unity and stability within the party.

The document, which did not carry an official letterhead, proposed Radzi as the new opposition leader to replace Hamzah.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Mohd Yassin previously said the party’s Supreme Council had agreed to end the ongoing internal dispute.

He added that the party’s priority now was to strengthen its leadership and find swift solutions to the issues at hand.

On Nov 2, 19 Bersatu MPs signed a letter expressing concern over the sacking and suspension of party leaders, describing the moves as “unwise.”

The MPs, including Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, who confirmed submitting the letter to , were referring to the sacking of Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and the one-term suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
