IF there is one thing the film Paranormal Activity taught us, it is that furniture should not be moving around on its own.
Recently, it was reported that chairs were flying through the air during a Hungry Ghost Festival event in Kampung Abdullah, Segamat.
Did this spooky occurrence actually happen?
VERDICT:
TRUE
All hell broke loose during a Hungry Ghost Festival event at Padang Awam Lichi, Kampung Abdullah, but it had nothing to do with poltergeists.
Segamat deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Ng Swie Chait said 10 individuals were involved in a fight at the event on Wednesday (Sept 17), two minutes before the clock struck midnight.
Several plastic chairs were used in the brawl – hence, chairs flying through the air. A video of the altercation went viral after it was uploaded to Facebook.
“The fight took place during the Hokkien wayang show and a band performance.
“10 individuals, aged 14 to 56, were detained on Thursday (Sept 18),” said Dsp Ng. The chairs, which were believed to have been used as weapons, were also seized.
All 10 suspects have since confessed to being embroiled in the altercation.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon or means and Section 148 for possessing weapons during a riot.
DSP Ng added that the performance permits for the Hokkien wayang show and the band gig were immediately revoked.
He also called upon the public to report any criminal activities within the district to the nearest police station or the Segamat District Police headquarters at 07-9324222.
