IDENTITY theft is an ever-rampant problem in our digital and connected world.
Legal and illegal actors are out there acquiring and selling your private information to the highest bidder for god knows what.
Many have fallen victim to people pretending to be them and misusing their identity for nefarious reasons.
This even includes government leaders like Cabinet ministers. Is there a fake letter bearing the name of Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and his ministry’s letterhead, regarding a so-called gratuity payment to an individual?

Nanta has denied issuing the document, saying that the letter was false and not issued by the ministry or himself, in his capacity as minister.
“The ministry has never issued any official invitation or correspondence about such a gratuity payment ceremony.
“I strongly urge members of the public not to be misled by such documents, which are fraudulent and constitute an act of impersonation,” he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 4).
He said the ministry had taken note of the matter and was cooperating with the relevant authorities to facilitate further investigation.
“Those with doubts on the authenticity of any document or communication allegedly issued by the Works Ministry are advised to verify through official channels such as the ministry website or by contacting the ministry’s official hotline,” he said.
