TEXT messages claiming to be from the Finance Ministry have been circulating, informing recipients they will receive a one-off Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) payment of RM300.
The messages state the aid will be credited to Touch ‘n Go accounts starting Jan 1 and urges people to click on a link to verify their eligibility.
But is the government really distributing RM300 in Sara aid through Touch ‘n Go?
Verdict:
FALSE
The claim that the public will receive a one-off Sara payment of RM300 through Touch ‘n Go is false, according to fact-checking website MyCheck.my.
The actual amount of the one-off Sara payment that Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above will receive is RM100, not RM300.
The official Touch ‘n Go portal address is https://www.touchngo.com.my/.
When attempting to access the link, it led to a page marked as a “dangerous site”.
Such sites typically contain malware that can spread viruses and expose users to phishing scams.
According to a report on Jan 5, 2026, the government will provide a one-off Sara payment of RM100 to 22 million Malaysians aged 18 and above.
The one-off aid will be credited on Feb 9 in preparation for Chinese New Year and Ramadan, and will be credited directly to recipients’ MyKad for use at more than 7,000 participating shops nationwide.
Touch ‘n Go issued a statement on its Facebook page on July 25, 2025, clarifying that its mobile application service is not involved in the implementation of the Sara initiative announced by the government.
The statement was issued after the government announced the first one-off Sara payment to Malaysians, which was also channelled through MyKad on Aug 31, 2025.
A similar SMS had circulated after the government’s first Sara announcement, claiming that Sara would be distributed through Touch ‘n Go and urging people to click on a link to verify their eligibility and apply.
The Finance Ministry then issued a statement on Nov 25, 2025, regarding the fake message about Sara payment through Touch ‘n Go, clarifying that no registration is required for Sara and reminding the public not to click on any links.
Kelantan Police issued a warning regarding the RM300 Sara aid SMS in a post uploaded on the Kelantan Police Contingent Facebook page on Jan 7.
The post stated that the government will not send aid through random messages, will not request personal information through links and will not ask for one-time passwords, account numbers or processing payments through messages.
Such messages are scams intended to steal personal information, hack phone or bank accounts and install harmful applications.
The post advised people not to click on any links, not to reply to such messages, to delete them and report them as spam, and to refer to aid information only through official government websites or channels.
The government provides an official portal to check Sara aid eligibility at sara.gov.my, whether for the one-off Sara payment for citizens aged 18 and above or monthly Sara for the poor. Besides eligibility, the public can also obtain information on the types of goods and list of nearby shops to use Sara.
Sara is distributed automatically and cashlessly directly to recipients’ MyKad, with no application or registration required. Recipients do not need to click on any links to verify their eligibility, and the public can check Sara eligibility through the official portal provided by the government.
